"When should my client go?" is the first question of almost every Japan enquiry — and the answer shapes the whole quote. Japan runs on four distinct seasons plus a handful of tight, high-demand windows. As your ground operator, Explera blocks peak inventory early and routes clients to the right place at the right moment. Here is the season-by-season guide.
## Spring (March–May) — cherry blossom peak The most-requested and most-competitive window. Sakura sweeps north from late March (Tokyo/Kyoto) into April, reaching Tohoku and Hokkaido in late April–May. Book 6–9 months ahead — hotels and guides sell out. Pair with our cherry blossom & seasons program.
## Summer (June–August) — festivals and the north Hot and humid on the mainland, with a rainy spell in June, but the season of the great festivals (Gion, Nebuta, Tanabata) and the cool escape of Hokkaido lavender and the Japan Alps. Good value outside festival dates.
## Autumn (September–November) — foliage, the second peak Koyo (autumn leaves) rivals sakura and is the connoisseur's season — crisp air, brilliant colour, clearer skies. Demand is high in November; quote foliage dates carefully as they shift yearly.
## Winter (December–February) — powder and clarity World-class powder in Niseko and the Alps, the Sapporo Snow Festival, illuminations, the clearest Mt Fuji views, and low-season value on the Golden Route. Strong for ski and for budget-conscious culture trips.
## How agents use this - Lead time is everything — sakura and powder need 6–12 months; we hold allotments. - Sell the shoulder — late spring and early autumn deliver great weather at better rates. - Match region to month — we route around the season so clients never arrive "off."
