Japan 10-Day Itinerary: The Golden Route and Beyond for Agents

25 June 2026 · Explera Trade Desk · 2 min read

Ten days is the sweet spot for a first Japan trip — long enough for the Golden Route with room to breathe, short enough to sell easily. Here is a flexible template you can adapt and we'll operate end to end, net in your currency.

The 10-day template

  • Days 1–3 — Tokyo. Arrival, Tokyo highlights (Asakusa, Shibuya, teamLab), a food walk, and a day trip option (Nikko or Kamakura).
  • Day 4 — Hakone / Mt Fuji. Onsen ryokan night with Mt Fuji views — the experiential centre of the trip.
  • Day 5 — Travel to Kyoto. Shinkansen with luggage forwarding; afternoon in eastern Kyoto.
  • Days 6–7 — Kyoto. Kyoto temples, Arashiyama, a tea ceremony and Gion at dusk.
  • Day 8 — Nara day trip. The Great Buddha and the deer park, an easy Nara half-day.
  • Days 9–10 — Osaka. Osaka food and castle, optional Universal Studios Japan, then departure from KIX.
Ten days covers the spine; the add-ons are what make it feel bespoke.

Easy add-ons (extend to 12–14 days)

  • Hiroshima & Miyajima on the western line.
  • Hokkaido or Okinawa for powder or beaches.
  • Kanazawa & the Japan Alps for Shirakawa-go and castle towns.
Shirakawa-go after the day-trippers leave is a classic extension night.

Why operate it through a DMC

We contract the hotels and ryokan, sequence the rail and transfers, assign licensed guides, and run 24/7 support — you keep the client and the margin. The same template scales from FIT to groups.
