GREEN×EXPO 2027 is an International Horticultural Expo held in Yokohama from 19 March to 26 September 2027. It is an A1-class expo under the international horticultural body AIPH, recognised by the Bureau International des Expositions, and the largest horticultural expo in Japan since Osaka in 1990. Around 70 countries and organisations are expected to take part, and the organisers project about 15 million visitors. For agents it is a six-month demand event on the edge of Tokyo — and the planning window opens now.
What the expo is
- The site is the former Kamiseya Communication Facility, spanning Asahi and Seya wards in western Yokohama. The expo uses around 100 hectares of a much larger site.
- The theme is "Scenery of the Future for Happiness" — gardens, landscape, agriculture and the relationship between people and nature.
- The season runs across spring and summer, which matters: Japan's spring is already the busiest period of the year, and the expo adds to it.
- National days are planned for dozens of participating countries and organisations, which is where government and trade delegations tend to cluster.

Why it matters for the trade
- Yokohama hotels will tighten. A six-month event near Tokyo pulls on the same rooms your other groups need. Blocks for spring 2027 should be requested early.
- Delegations and MICE. Horticulture, agriculture, landscape and urban planning bodies will send study groups, and a national day can shape a whole itinerary around one date.
- Timing with the rest of spring. The opening coincides with cherry blossom season, the peak of Japan's calendar. A group can do both, but only if the hotel and transport plan was made with both in mind.
- Access is part of the product. The site is not in central Yokohama, so transfers, entry times and walking distances need to be planned rather than assumed.
How we build it
We treat the expo as one anchor day or two inside a wider programme — Yokohama itself (see our Yokohama guide), Tokyo, Kamakura or Hakone — rather than as the whole trip. For delegations we match the visit to the relevant national day or theme, and for incentive groups we plan the entry time and the rest of the day around the crowd, not against it. Ticketing and group entry details will be confirmed by the organisers closer to opening, and we quote only from what they have published.
