Sports hospitality — a match ticket packaged with a lounge, dining, transfers and access that a standard seat does not give — is a mature product in Europe and North America and still a young one in Japan. That is changing. On 2 September 2026, KNT, JTB, Pia and Tobu Top Tours launched the Sports Hospitality Promotion Council to grow the category, and its first study session was set for 2 October in Aichi, the host prefecture of the 20th Asian Games. For agents with premium sports clients, it is a signal that supply is about to widen.
What sports hospitality means in practice
- The seat is only part of it. A hospitality package adds a lounge or suite, food and drink, often a guaranteed good view, and sometimes access such as a stadium tour or a meeting with former players.
- Room-style hospitality lives inside the venue, in suites and lounges.
- Off-venue hospitality happens outside — fan zones, receptions and dinners around the event — and it is where a DMC adds the most value, because it can be designed around the group rather than bought off a price list.
- Corporate clients use it as a meeting. For incentive and client-entertainment programmes, the hospitality space is where the business actually happens.

Where Japan's supply stands
- Baseball is the deepest market, with premium seating at many stadiums; our baseball guide covers how groups are placed.
- Motorsport has the most developed hospitality, led by the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka; see our motorsport calendar.
- Sumo offers box seating and, in some cases, packages with dining; the tournament calendar sets the dates.
- Major events such as the Asian Games in Aichi are where new formats get tested first.
The new council's stated aim is to raise the value of this category across the industry. What it produces — shared standards, new packages, venue partnerships — is still to come, and we will report on it as it lands rather than predict it.
How we build it
We start from the client's purpose — entertaining customers, rewarding a sales team, or a fan trip — and match the event and hospitality level to it. Allocations for premium seating are limited and released on the rights-holder's timetable, so we confirm availability before a proposal names a product. Around the event we add the off-venue half: private dining, transfers, a hotel close enough to matter, and a day that is not only the match.
