Explera DMC Japan now books Supreme Class, the private cabins that JR Central and JR West began selling on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen on 1 October 2026. Each cabin has a lockable door, a reclining seat, a large table and its own Wi-Fi. It suits VIP travellers, executives and couples who want privacy on the Tokyo to Osaka run.
The two railways announced the cabins in June 2026. They are fitted to the 16-car N700S trains and run on Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama services. In October only some trains carry them, and the railways plan to add more trains over the year.
What does a Supreme Class cabin offer?
- Two cabin types. A cabin for up to two guests in car 7, and a single cabin in car 10.
- Privacy. The door locks and opens with the same ticket the guest uses to board.
- Comfort for work. A reclining seat, a large table, luggage space and dedicated Wi-Fi.
- Ticketless travel. Cabins are sold online through JR Central's EX booking services, and guests board with a QR code or an IC card.
Who should we book into Supreme Class?
- VIP and executive travellers who want to take calls or work in private between Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka.
- Couples and honeymooners who want a quiet, private journey.
- Small private groups split across several cabins on the same train.
Supply is small: each train has only two cabins, and not every train has them. For larger groups we still use the Green Car, and for the most special rail journeys we look at the trains in our luxury train guide.
How do we book it for clients?
- Book early. With two cabins per train, we request the cabin as soon as travel dates are confirmed.
- Match the train. We check which departures carry Supreme Class before we fix the timing of a transfer or a tour.
- Plan both ends. We arrange the meet at the platform and the car at arrival, so the private cabin is part of a smooth door-to-door day.
