Osaka is building Japan's first integrated resort (IR). MGM Osaka, on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka Bay, broke ground in April 2025 and is planned to open in autumn 2030. It is a long way off, but corporate and MICE clients plan years ahead, and several of them are already asking.
What is being built
- Hotels. About 2,500 rooms across three hotels.
- MICE space. A large convention and exhibition centre. The operator presents meetings and events as a core part of the project.
- Entertainment. A theatre, dining, shopping and a casino. The casino is a small share of the floor space.
- Who is behind it. A consortium led by MGM Resorts International and ORIX Corporation.

Access
Yumeshima also hosted Expo 2025. The Osaka Metro Chuo Line already reaches the island at Yumeshima Station, and further rail links are planned before the resort opens. We will confirm travel times once the transport plan is final.
What it means for the trade
- Plan, do not sell, for now. Dates, rates and venue specifications are not yet published. We share facts as they are confirmed.
- Casino rules. Japan's IR law treats Japanese residents and overseas visitors differently for casino entry. We will brief clients when the detailed rules apply.
- Osaka today. Osaka already has strong venues, hotels and food for groups. See our Osaka guide and our convention centres guide.

How we plan it
For 2030 and beyond, we track the project and keep interested clients informed. For events now, we plan with Osaka's existing venues. For incentive ideas, see our MICE and incentive guide.
