Grand sumo runs six fifteen-day tournaments a year: three in Tokyo at Ryogoku Kokugikan, one each in Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. Clients ask for it constantly and are usually sold a distant upper-tier seat, which misses the point entirely. The experience that justifies a luxury price is close: box seats at floor level, a stable visit in the morning, and someone who can explain what is happening between bouts.
- Ringside box seats are limited, allocated early and effectively impossible to obtain on the open market once a tournament is close.
- The sport is opaque without interpretation, so a knowledgeable guide changes the experience more than the seat category does.

When are the grand sumo tournaments held?
Six tournaments run each year, in January, March, May, July, September and November. Three are in Tokyo at Ryogoku Kokugikan, with one each in Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. Each runs fifteen days, and exact dates are confirmed per season.
Can you get ringside seats at sumo?
Ringside and box seats are limited and allocated early, so they have to be secured at release rather than sought close to the tournament. That is the difference between the experience clients imagine and the one they usually get.
Can clients visit a sumo stable?
Morning training visits are possible where the relationship allows, and we arrange them on that basis. They depend on the stable rather than on a booking system, so we never promise one before it is confirmed.
Is sumo worth building an itinerary around?
It is better used as a fixed point within a Tokyo itinerary than as the reason for the trip. Tournament months are known well ahead, so a Japan trip can be timed to include one without reshaping everything else.
