Tenjin Matsuri belongs to Osaka Tenmangu and closes on the evening of 25 July, when a procession of boats works along the Ōkawa under fireworks. The land parade moves through the city during the day; the river is the part clients remember. Operationally it is a viewing problem rather than a ticketing one — the best positions on the water and the embankment are limited, informal and locally held, and the riverside fills hours before anything begins.

• The evening concentrates a whole city on a short stretch of riverbank, so a client without a planned position spends the night looking at other people’s backs.
• Osaka runs close to full through July on convention and leisure demand alone, and the festival nights sit on top of that rather than beside it.
• Boat and terrace viewing is arranged through local relationships rather than sold openly, so it cannot be bought late at any price.

Basing decides the file.

Kitahama, Nakanoshima and the Umeda side put clients within walking distance of the river, which matters because transfers collapse once the closures go in. Namba is livelier and further from the water; on a high-end file we take the walkable side and accept the quieter neighbourhood.

When to start.

Nine to twelve months. The hotel stock is the first constraint and the viewing positions the second, and the second cannot be solved by paying more later — it is arranged early or not at all.
