The Sumida fireworks descend from Edo-period river displays and remain Tokyo's signature summer night: two launch sites on the river north of Asakusa, a long programme, and streets around the banks that fill many hours before the first shell. The date is a Saturday late in July and moves annually. For an agent, the free viewing is functionally unusable for a luxury client — dense, static, hot and with a departure afterwards that can take well over an hour. The entire value of the file sits in securing a position off the street.

• Public bank viewing means arriving hours early, standing through July heat and humidity, and leaving in a crowd that saturates every station around the river.
• The private alternatives — restaurant terraces, hotel rooms with sightlines, chartered boats — are limited, locally held and taken very early, and cannot be bought late at any price.
• The date is a movable Saturday and the event can be postponed or cancelled for weather, so the surrounding programme has to be able to absorb a change without collapsing.

Basing decides the file.

Anywhere central and good in Tokyo works for the trip as a whole; for the night itself the question is whether the viewing position is secured, not where the client sleeps. We do not move clients to a lesser hotel near the river for one evening — we solve the evening separately.

When to start.

Nine to twelve months for private viewing, which is the only part that is genuinely scarce. Hotels in Tokyo in late July are straightforward by comparison, and the movable Saturday means we hold the window and confirm once the date is announced.
